Innovative GMC® material (the sustainable evolution of the SMC composite material), finds its first application in the automotive sector.
www.hikari.green, the innovative start-up that developed the GMC®, in collaboration with www.ranger.it, a company specialized in the development and production of composite materials, have reached the important milestone of applying the GMC® material for the first time in the automotive sector.
It’s an interior panel of an Electrical Vehicle that acts as both: a structure and a trim.
The mold for the realization of the part has always been made by Ranger in steel and weighs 8 tons, the concept is similar to that for SMC molds.
The press to produce the part is a 4000 tons but 1500 tons were enough to obtain the part; therefore, lower the normal pressures that are used for traditional SMC material.
The moulding test did not create any problems, the thermoregulation of the mould was the cavity at 147°, while the core at 145°.
GMC®is a composite material composed of natural fibers, bio resins and biofillers.
This material has a low carbon footprint: around half that of traditional materials.
Innovation will be showcased at the upcoming JEC 2024 (www.jec-world.events) event, scheduled to take place in Paris on March 5-6-7. The RANGER/HIKARY booth will be located in Hall 6 at booth L93. Visitors will have the opportunity to physically interact with the piece and obtain additional information.
